About B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture

   B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture course is an undergraduate programme in the stream of agriculture. Unlike regular B.Sc. courses, this programme is of four-year duration. This is because the course is considered as a professional degree programme per the Government of India. With the increasing focus on agricultural practices in the country, the demand for trained professionals in this area has also been increasing. In fact, agriculture employs nearly half of the Indian population. Thus, the craze for courses in agriculture has also been on a rise among students.

Eligibility for B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture

1. Minimum age: The age of the candidate should be 16 years as on last date of submission of application form.

2. Aggregate marks: Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination (12th Std. Science) with minimum 50% marks for General category (Open) and minimum 40% marks in aggregate for reserved categories (SC/ST/VJa/NTb /NTc /NTd / OBC / SBC).

3. Common Entrance Examination i.e. MHT-CET/JEE/NEET/AIEEA-UG organized by competent authority during year 2018-19 in PCB or PCM subject.

B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture: Admission Process

Admission in universities or institutes offering B.Sc. in Agriculture course is done based on the Common Entrance Test conducted by the competent authority (MHTCET/JEE/NEET/AIEEA-UG) the merit of admission will be determined by considering the 70% of total percent marks obtained in the respective group (PCB/PCM) and 30% of total percent marks in the eligibility examination / 12th (Science) examination and the other weightages.

B.Sc (Honours) Agriculture course

B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture involves the study of agriculture sciences and use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil science, water resource management, animal, and poultry management, basics of biotechnology etc. The objective of the course is to use these concepts to train students to improve agricultural productivity.  B.Sc. Agriculture Syllabus includes subjects such as Agronomy, Plant Biochemistry, Water Managment Engineering, Study of Pests and Crops, amongst many others. The syllabus is designed to provide an overall knowledge of agriculture and all its related disciplines.

Agronomy: Basics of Agronomy, Field Crops (Kharif), Field Crops (Rabi), Crop Production, Weed Management, Irrigation Techniques, Water resource management, Organic Farming, Sustainable agriculture. Apart from theoretical subjects, practical sessions are also involved, in case of these subjects.

Plant Genetics: Botany, Basics of Genetics, Plant Breeding, Seed Technology, Basics of Biotechnology. Apart from the above mentioned theoretical subjects, practical sessions involving these subjects are also present.

Soil Science: Introduction to Soil Science, Soil Fertility, Soil Chemistry, Fertilizers, Agricultural Chemistry. Apart from the above mentioned theoretical subjects, practical sessions involving the subjects are also present.

Entomology: Pest Management, Beneficial Insects, Grain Storage and Management. Like the above entries, along with theoretical subjects, practical sessions involving them are also present.

Agricultural Economics: Market prices, Trade prices, Marketing, Finance, Agribusiness Management, Farm Management. Along with the theoretical subjects, practical sessions involving them are also present.

Agriculture Engineering: Agriculture Machinery, Power and Tools, Harvest Technology, Environment Science and Engineering, Renewable Energy. Along with the theoretical subjects, practical sessions involving them are also present.

Agricultural Meteorology: Climate patterns, Climatic hazards on Agriculture, Climatic Zones, Weather forecasting. Practical sessions related to the theoretical subjects are also present.

Plant Pathology: Crop Diseases, Nematology. Practical sessions related to the theoretical subjects are also present.

Horticulture: Fruit Crops, Medicinal Plants, Aromatic Plants, Flower Production, Spices, Plantation Crops. Practical sessions related to the theoretical subjects are also present.

Agricultural Extension: Dimensions of Agricultural Extension, Extension Methodologies, Entrepreneurship Development program. Practical sessions related to the theoretical subjects is also present. Biochemistry , Physiology , Microbiology
